"If I was a book, I would like to be a library book, so I would be taken home by all different sorts of kids."- Cornelia Funke, author of InkheartFor as long as I can remember, I have loved reading books and spending time in my local libraries. After twelve years of teaching sixth grade English, I discovered my favorite part of the day was reading to my two-year old daughter books at bedtime. I knew I was ready for a new adventure!
This is my first year as librarian at Cutchins Creek Elementary School. I am a 2001 graduate of James Madison University where I majored in English, concentrating in composition, and minored in Middle Education. In 2011, I received my Masters in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University where I studied curriculum and instruction with an instructional technology focus. I obtained my library certification from Old Dominion University in 2016. As a librarian, I believe all students learn differently, and I try to provide a variety of activities that appeal to multiple learning styles. I am a strong proponent of 21st Century Skills; if you peek inside our library, you will see students engaged in collaboration, developing their creativity, researching the answers to their own questions, and communicating with the world beyond our classroom walls. Besides reading, I also teach baton twirling, and I am very proud of two of my students who will be competing in the state championship in June. I enjoy traveling to Disney World and spending time with my family. |
